Colombia has some of South America's finest colonial cities offering fantastic opportunities for highly cultural tours. Coastal Cartegena is Colombia's colonial gem, and one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in all South America. There are numerous beautiful old colonial buildings, plazas, museums and a range of other cultural activities in Cartegena.
The Spanish, seeking El Dorado hundreds of years ago, have left a great influence on towns throughout Colombia, and many such towns are still immaculately preserved. You can almost feel yourself stepping back in time when visiting the small colonial towns of Mompos or Villa de Leiva, both of which have been the settings of numerous films and Colombian soap operas. Further south in Colombia, Popayan and Santa Fe de Antioquia are also very well preserved colonial towns ozzing in character and charm.
Colombia's capital city Bogota also has a fine old colonial quarter known as La Candelaria. Almost all towns and cities in Colombia exhibit colonial cultural influences - there are so many such small towns a list of them would be endless.
